This document specifies methods for the determination of free amino acids in fertilizers, including amino acid analyzer method, pre-column derivatization high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method, and high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) method. This document is applicable to the determination of free amino acids in fertilizers, soil conditioners, and beneficial substances. The amino acids covered include: asparagine, tryptophan, glutamine, theanine, aspartic acid, threonine, serine, glutamic acid, proline, glycine, alanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, histidine, lysine, arginine, ?-aminobutyric acid, and cystine.
