This document specifies test methods for the measurement of the physical degradation of textile materials under the simulated industrial composting conditions in a laboratory scale. Degradation rates considered in this document are mechanical properties and surface area loss. Any pretreatment of textile materials is not allowed prior to testing. This method is not suitable to assess biodegradation or mineralization of textile materials. This method is intended for textile materials marketed as compostable or likely to enter industrial composting streams and not intended to evaluate durability of textile materials for non-compost end-of-life.
