This document specifies the sampling and analysis of phthalates in indoor air and describes the sampling and analysis of phthalates in house dust and in solvent wipe samples of surfaces by means of gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Two alternative sampling and processing methods, whose comparability has been proven in a round robin test, are specified for indoor air.[1] Sampling can take place using sorbent tubes with subsequent thermal desorption and GC-MS analysis. Alternatively, sampling can take on other types of sorbent devices as described in Annex B, that are subsequently analysed by solvent extraction with GC-MS. Depending on the sampling method, the compounds dimethyl phthalate to diisoundecylphthalate can be analysed in house dust as described in Annex D.[2] The investigation of house dust samples is only appropriate as a screening method. This investigation only results in indicative values and is not acceptable for a final assessment of a potential need for action. Dimethyl phthalate to diisoundecylphthalate can be analysed in solvent wipe samples as described in Annex C. Solvent wipe samples are suitable for non-quantitative source identification. General information on phthalates are given in Annex A.

This document specifies minimum design and performance requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used by firefighters whilst engaged in fighting fires occurring in structures, primarily but not solely to protect against exposure to flame and high thermal loads. The scope of this document does not include PPE for use in high risk fire exposures where, for example, protective clothing with reflective surface according to ISO 15538 might be more appropriate, where exposure to lower levels of heat or flame may be encountered by firefighters engaged in support activities where PPE according to ISO 11613 might be more appropriate, or for use in long term firefighting operations in high ambient temperature (for example, bush, wildland, or forest firefighting) where PPE according to ISO 16073 might be more appropriate. Similarly, this document does not include PPE to protect against chemical and biological hazards, other than against short term and accidental exposure while engaged in firefighting and associated activities when fighting fires occurring in structures. This part of ISO 11999 provides the structure for a harmonised approach across all parts of this series by setting single minimum design and performance requirements for PPE, including optional requirements where identified, and for product markings and manufacturer’s instructions. Selection of an appropriate system of protective equipment is dependent upon an effective risk assessment which identifies the hazards to be faced, evaluates the likelihood of those hazards, and provides the means to reduce or eliminate these hazards (see ISO 21808).

This document specifies a method for determining the tensile creep and creep rupture behaviour of geotextiles and geotextile-related products in an unconfined situation. Application of this standard is limited to those products and applications where the risk of collapse of a structure due to premature failure or to strain/time variation of the reinforcement under constant load is of essential importance. As the test is carried out over a long period of time and the procedure is complex, it is therefore recommended that the test is not considered to be a routine quality control test. The results of the test cannot be representative of the performance of the products when subject to soil pressures.
